One of the first things we noticed when we pulled off the wheels on our R1T for the first time was the overstretched and strained rear brake hose. Not to be fear mongers, but in the motorsport world, we’re from – you NEVER, EVER strain hoses like that. ANY kind of hose, much yet a brake line! We figure this was an innocent mistake by an engineer at Rivian, who most likely didn’t account for all of the bushing deflection in the damper top hats and suspension links that result in more suspension droop in real life than the design would have shown.

While this is only an issue when the trucks wheels are fully extended, we took it as even more motivation to design a set of stainless steel brake lines for the vehicle. Our Tesla brake lines were so successful, we wanted to share that love with the Rivian R1T and R1S crowd, offering another quality upgrade for one of our favorite platforms.

Concept And Design

We carefully designed and manufactured the brackets in house – using 3D scanning technology along with our laser cutter and bender. We even had to design and machine special fittings for the Rivian to offer a totally OEM solution. These are not “off-the-shelf” brake lines by any stretch of the imagination – and a lot of work and testing has gone into producing them! These brake lines also feature 100% stainless steel construction. Many assume that “stainless steel” brake lines indicate that the entire line is stainless steel, but in fact this term refers only to the wire braiding inside the line. The fittings and bolts on just about all aftermarket brake lines are plain steel, which are susceptible to corrosion over time. Our lines are 100% stainless steel – fittings and bolts included!

Why Stainless Steel Brake Lines?

Stainless Steel Brake Lines have many advantages over OEM rubber hoses – They are stronger and more durable, able to withstand road debris and high temperatures. They don’t expand under pressure, even when subjected to racing conditions. While that might not be so significant when it comes to truck applications – having a stainless reinforced line that isn’t being pulled on whenever the suspension extends is a solid investment in our view – and that’s why we developed them first for our own R1T!  Stainless lines also provide a firm, consistent brake pedal feel, and look great doing it. As you would expect, these hoses are made to DOT guidelines and come with a lifetime warranty.

Our new lines are made in collaboration with HEL Performance (Hose Solutions Limited). Based in the UK, all of the fittings and hoses are manufactured there (other than our specific Rivian fitting, which we make for this application), with the assembly being done in the USA.
