Description
The new Model S has an entirely redesigned rear suspension with some opportunities and challenges for the aftermarket. One of the first products we set out to create was an MPP style rear toe arm, using clamp style adjustment and spherical bearings. Our suspension components are incredibly popular on the Model 3 and Model Y platforms, and we are excited to keep that trend going with the Model S!
Following the design philosophy used on the Model 3 arms, we’ve made some changes to accommodate the short length of the Model S toe arm, as well as adding some beautiful design features to turn a simple suspension arm into a functional art piece. The only downside is that the complex and expensive inner bearing requires a very custom solution, which increases the cost of the part compared to the simpler Model 3 parts.
Our Rear Toe Arms for Model S Plaid take everything we’ve learned from motorsport and road car performance for over 20 years and apply it to the Tesla Model S. We know how important it is for suspension arms to be easy to adjust, have great durability even in harsh climates, and have solid bearings rather than rubber bushings for the ultimate connection to the road.
Most aftermarket suspension arms are made using either urethane bushings, which are used because they are cheap – or spherical rod ends, which are ideal for performance but don’t last very long in sandy or salty environments. Our solution is to use an OEM production sealed bearing – delivering the performance of a spherical with the durability of an OE part. The sealed bearing is just like a ball joint, it is solid and has virtually no compliance, while being lubricated and protected from corrosion.
Rod ends tend to thread into a suspension arm, which makes them very easy to adjust – whereas a pressed in bearing offers no adjustment. Our solution is to use an offset thread turnbuckle allowing for precise adjustment. Rather than use jam-nuts – which always affect the alignment when locking down the nuts – our clamping system allows the alignment technician to perfectly set the alignment, then tighten the clamp bolts without throwing off the toe.
In addition, laser engraving indicates which way to adjust the turnbuckle to extend or retract the arm, saving any confusion for your local alignment technician, or for anyone trying to make some quick track-side changes. In fact – we’ve calibrated our arms so that 1 hex adjustment (1/6th of a turn) is almost exactly 2mm of toe change. This means that with our toe arms, you can precisely try different rear toe settings at the track and easily be able to get back to your starting point. This is an extremely powerful feature that none of our competitors are able to offer.
The turnbuckles are made from stainless steel – so they will never corrode or rust. The arms are CNC machined out of 6061-T6 aluminum, and anodized blue for durability and aesthetics.
These arms come fully assembled at set to the factory length. We always recommend using anti-seize lubricant to prevent any galvanic corrosion between the aluminum and stainless steel, and the arms are supplied with anti-seize applied. The toe-adjustment range is more than enough to cover any toe setting desired, even at any imaginable camber setting. Arms come as a pair of two and are warrantied for 3 years. They are incredibly easy to adjust, using common wrench sizes, unlike the OEM toe arm.
As with all of our MPP parts, these arms are designed for and validated on the racetrack. We use our MPP toe arms to make quick track-side adjustments on the MPP.R Plaid Model S which is currently tearing it up around tracks all over the east coast, regularly being the fastest car on any track it visits despite using standard PS4S street tires and having a full, comfortable interior!
